Students have been creating and tuning their own instruments. We have a pretty good guitar player that made a dulcimer.

Life Can Get Back to Normal Now

For the past month, I have been all consumed by the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest. In the past 2 weeks we have created an electric go-kart and video for this contest. Here is our product. Hopefully, we will win but I can now rest easier. Thanks to the students who helped me out and the support of the staff at EHS. 

Thermo Projects

The project is to answer one of the following questions: 

1. Which travel mugs should you get to keep your coffee or tea the warmest on your journey to school? You may not use my calorimeters!

2. What should you keep your soda in to keep it the coldest at lunch time?

3. What enclosure keeps the pizza the warmest? Aluminum foil, cardboard box, paper bag, saran wrap?

4. Is a down jacket really warmer? 

5. Does the shiny side of aluminum foil matter in keeping your burrito warm?

6. Are mittens really warmer than gloves?

This was my favorite. A tad light on the science but it's the creativity I have been craving. 

Our results were the following:

Most boring lab ever

We are make the temperature vs time curve for water in hopes discovering the idea of heat of fusion and heat of vaporization.  The interesting part is the hypotheses of what the graph should look like. Most pick linear or exponential. I like it when it's not either. 

Collaboration Day

I got to work with Dan Brooks and Marti from the LMC on a grant. We made a video for updating our library. Here is our final product.

PhETing.

Today we are PhETing. We are using gas properties and states of matter as an introduction to kinetic molecular theory. 

Egg drop day

Saw some intersting designs.  We even had a chicken being dropped. A bunch were successful but we had some good carnage.
